The gold standard in orthopaedic care

Our whole person methods promise a level of personalised care that makes you feel positive about your recovery – no stress, no drama

Stay right there. We treat you where you are

We want to make your life easier and better. Forget the discomfort of travelling to appointments when you least feel up to it. Seeing you at home or at work means your treatment and rehabilitation can be carefully monitored to give you the ultimate peace of mind.

Skilled physios who care

Our experienced physio team have worked with hundreds of orthopaedic surgeons and consultants and treated thousands of patients. They continually draw on the latest approaches and techniques to create treatment plans tailored to you.

Feel better, for longer

Everyone is different, so it’s with you in mind that our team work seamlessly together to provide continuity of care to give you the best treatments, guidance and support to help you achieve your goal and sustain maximum movement.

We offer guidance, physio and rehabilitation for:

Knee surgery

After a knee operation, rehabilitation is essential to promote recovery and ensure you achieve full movement.

We’ll work with you to maximise the range of motion for flexion and extension, quadricep and hamstring strength, whilst improving the quality of your mobility. We also address previous compensations and habits.

Typical surgeries include:

  • Total knee replacements
  • Partial knee replacements
  • Arthroscopy
  • Osteotomy
  • Tibial, ligament and meniscal repair

Hip surgery

Early mobilisation is essential after hip surgery to help speed recovery. Our aim is to ensure you are back to regular daily activities, without discomfort, in the shortest time.

We will tailor your treatment to maximise joint range of motion for flexion, extension, abduction and rotation. We also improve posture, mobility and strengthen your hip joint.

Typical surgeries include:

  • Total hip replacements
  • Resurfacing
  • Arthroscopy

Shoulder surgery

The shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body and surgeons often have strict protocols for sling use, exercises and progression.

We work closely with you and your surgeon ensuring you are doing the right exercises at the right stage. This will help to maximise your recovery, minimise compensatory movements and return you to full function.

Typical surgeries include:

  • Total shoulder replacements
  • Rotator cuff repairs
  • AC joint, subacromial, SLAP, Bankart and labral repairs

Other joints

We are also fully equipped to help you with other orthopaedic needs, including:

  • Ankles — fractures and ligaments
  • Elbows — fractures and ligaments
  • Spinal — decompression, disectomy, laminectomy and fusions
  • Trauma — fractures
  • Bunion surgery

Every condition is different, so we treat you as an individual

Pre-operative

During pre-op, our rehabilitation specialists work with you to help build your strength and mobility before your operation and set you up for the best possible rest and recovery process.

We give you expert advice on:

  • Setting you up in the best way before surgery
  • Identifying your strengths and weaknesses
  • Identifying muscle imbalances
  • Managing the healing and recovery process
  • Managing expectations for your return to form
  • Coordinating with your surgeon and GP as needed

Post-operative

During post-op our rehabilitation specialists focus on maximising joint mobility and strength through our whole person approach — tailoring biomechanic-informed rehabilitation and integrated recovery treatments.

Ask us for guidance on:

  • What to expect after your operation
  • How to address swelling and bruising, as well as regaining movement to get you confidently mobile again
  • Muscle re-activation
  • The importance of pain relief
  • Pacing your recovery
  • Coordinating with your surgeon and GP as needed

Ongoing rehab

Rehab doesn’t necessarily end once your short term objectives such as improving range of movement or muscle activation have been met. Aquian recognises there may be a need for ongoing rehabilitation.
This involves working with you to realise your personal goals of returning to specific daily activities or sports as well as maintaining the progress you have already achieved. At this stage the focus shifts towards functional and whole body rehabilitation via the following:
  • Strength and endurance exercises
  • Pilates-based exercises
  • Balance and proprioceptive training
  • Skill-specific training

What our patients love about us

“My experience of Aquian’s rehab physiotherapy after a full knee replacement has been exceptional. Helen, my physiotherapist with specialist rehab skill, sympathetic friendliness and knowledge in post-knee surgery, has guided me through all the appropriate exercises. At every stage of the recovery process she has ensured my excellent progress. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Helen again. Treatment within my own home at convenient times made the whole process so much easier.”

LINDA ARNOLD

“Steve has treated me for the last four years, beginning with a total right knee replacement and then total right shoulder replacement. He is currently treating me after a left knee revision and frankly I don’t know what I would do without his expertise. If you need your joints and muscles sorting give him (and Aquian) a call, he comes highly recommended.”

JR, FETCHAM

“After having a total knee replacement, followed by 7 days at The Clavadal, I had physiotherapy from Aquia at my home. These sessions proved to be invaluable as a follow-up, and I was shown further exercises, not shown to me at the Clavadal. They did not cause me any pain, but at the same time helped greatly with movement. Chrissie, the physiotherapist, was extremely kind and a really lovely person to show me the exercises. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her to future clients, and in fact I will be asking for her when I have my other knee operated on later in the year.”

JOANNE PEARCEY

“The progress Darcy has made because of you is truly amazing! Helen, we can’t thank you enough.”

SAM & DARCY

“Aquian (and Steve) provide the kind of support and reassurance that is essential for anyone left to struggle alone with recovery after major surgery. I consider myself very lucky to have come into their care.”

A. FARNELL WATSON

“I have been working with Steve for three months to rehab a left hip replacement. He has worked with me from week one, setting clear goals for each phase of recovery. He has managed my recovery expectations well and the hip is making good progress. I look forward to working with Steve until I am back on the 5-aside pitch!”

TIM WILLIS

“Having had a really bad 18 months resulting from initial poor surgery, and then a second operation, Steve Perry has been a lifesaver to me. Nothing is ever too much trouble and his experience is such that he is never floored by unexpected challenges.”

How we work with you

Our whole person methods, developed over years of experience, promise a level of personalised care that makes you feel positive about your recovery — no stress and you don’t feel like you’re just another name on a long list of patients.

Assessment

On our first visit we’ll get an understanding of what you’ve been through, what you want to achieve and discuss what treatments might involve. We’ll answer any questions or concerns you have.

For those awaiting surgery, treatments will include any pre-operative sessions and most importantly a plan for the care you might need when you are discharged from hospital.

Complete treatment plan

During all our visits, we’ll review your progress including pain and swelling management strategies, measure joint and muscle function, and observe gait and functional tasks.

We’ll support you to perform to the level of function that will ultimately give you the mobility needed for daily life.

Together, we’ll set achievable goals to progress your recovery at a pace that ensures you steadily improve.

Regardless of your condition, your safety and comfort are paramount, so you’ll have access to all the support we can offer.

Feel better, for longer

Rehabilitation doesn’t necessarily end once your short-term objectives have been met, such as improving range of movement or muscle activation.

To help you maintain maximum movement and deliver longer term benefits it’s important to continue rehabilitation such as taking regular exercise, stretching and strengthening activity.

Aquian offers a range of services to support you on this journey to help you feel better, for longer. We’ll always be just one phone call away.
